While We Wait: Kehlani's Latest Project
February 22 Midnight ET - Kehlani released her latest project, a mixtape entitled While We Wait. The mixtape is the first full-length project since the Bay Area songstress released her debut album SweetSexySavage marking the nine-track, While We Wait as her fourth full-length project and third mixtape. January 10 Kehlani released the first official single “Nights Like This” featuring Ty-Dolla $ign. The single came with unique sci-fi style visual premiering the same day. Kehlani built anticipation for the mixtape she recorded within just a month.
On February 11, the second official single “Butterfly” released along with the official pre-order of While We Wait. On February 19th, Kehlani dropped another track featuring Dom Kennedy, “Nunya.” Kehlani soon announced there was also a music video to go along with the release of “Nunya” that released the following morning. With three official singles, Kehlani and her team created anticipation for her first project in over two years.

While We Wait begins with “Footsteps” featuring Musiq Soulchild. Up next Kehlani breaks down how emotions can be involved even when not planned in “Too Deep.” The third track “Nunya” featuring Dom Kennedy shows another perspective of telling a hung up ex to mind their business and not to be worried about your every move. “Morning Glory” follows and provides peak TLC vibes, and takes on the old idea that, ‘if you don’t want me at worst you don’t deserve me at my best.’

“Feels” sits at track number five and Kehlani pours out all of her emotions that a significant other triggers. The leading single “Nights Like This” featuring Ty Dolla $ign is up next with its catchy tune and lyrics. “RPG” is the third feature with 6lack, RPG refers to the term role-playing game; the track discusses how a significant other can play the role you want them to.

“Butterfly” flies in with harmonizing melodies and beautiful arrangements. To conclude the project, “Love Language” ties While We Wait together as Kehlani expresses the importance of learning one’s love language.
