Must See TV: "The Bold Type" Review

Television is a past time that I've loved since I could remember and I love a binge worthy show, and The Bold Type is that and so much more.

The Bold Type is a new series on the network FreeForm (formerly ABC Family), and it definitely lives up to its name. The show is based on Cosmopolitan's very own Joanna Coles (she also serves as executive producer of the show), and follows the lives of three young friends who all work at Scarlet magazine. What could possibly go wrong in this fabulous glamorous world, right? Well, so much, from work drama to personal problems.

The three leads of the show are Jane Sloan (played by Katie Stevens), Kat Edison (played by Aisha Dee), and Sutton Brady (played by Meghann Fahy). Jane Sloan is a newly promoted writer who grew up, the only girl in a home full of boys, reading Scarlet looking to the magazine for advice like a big sister. Kat Edison is the magazine's social media director who is defining movements via social media but not her new affections for a female photographer. Sutton Brady is the best assistant Scarlet has ever seen but longs for a career in fashion.

The series is heartfelt like Gilmore Girls but at the same time risky like Sex in the City, a pure gem. It is great because it is honest and raw about how one's life working at a widely popular women's magazine can be. From sweet "shoulder to cry on" moments in the magazine's fashion closet or a night out on the town to celebrate making an important deadline. The Bold Type is this week's must see TV series, check it out on FreeForm Tuesdays at 9/8c.
